Went in today with my dog as she has been sick, couldn’t get her into her vets office until next week. They were able to get us in quickly and took their time going through my dogs symptoms and then explained every step along the way (physical exam and if they would do blood work or an x ray). I can’t thank this place enough! - read less

The Apotheosis of Pet Care: I do not often write reviews but the team at North Center Animal Hospital deserves high praise. We only just moved from SF to Chicago in the midst of a heatwave. My dog, Bryn is an 11-year-old Welsh Terrier with a history of minor medical concerns (allergies, ear infections, UTIs), and she just spent time at the ER in San Francisco due to severe intestinal distress brought on by the stress of the move. She was bleeding profusely and I was on eggshells trying to manage her stress level once we got to our new place. When she started showing UTI symptoms I spotted them right away. I really wanted to find a regular vet that could see her the same day because, in my experience: 1) an emergency vet is - or should be - only for really terrible things, like her recent intestinal bleeding 2) at an ER we would have been triaged to a minor concern and not seen for who knows how long and that would have been very stressful for her 3) a drop-off and go where she would have been by herself for an indeterminate amount of time would have been out of the question. After hours of calling around to various veterinary centers on the North Side, NCAH not only got us in the same day, the staff LISTENED to what I had to tell them, the READ the medical history I forwarded to them, and they *made a CONCERTED EFFORT to understand my dog and her individual condition, disposition, personality, and prior medical history*. At no point did a tech or doctor come in to me an "tell me how it was". This was patient-centered care in a veterinary setting and I was so relieved to find them. I know where Bryn is going for all her future veterinary needs. Thank you, NCAH! - read less

I've taken my dog twice, once for routine care and another for an "urgent" matter when he got into a dog food container. I've taken my dog twice, once for routine care and another for an "urgent" matter when he got into a dog food container. The vet was honest about what he would do (x-ray) in my situation, but was cognizant about cost and gave an alternative (monitoring and bringing back if needed). I went with the x-ray and additional fluid as recommended and the cost was still reasonable. Most recently, I brought my cat when I wanted another opinion and wasn't happy with the care provided elsewhere. I was told my senior cat was healthy, albeit very early CKD at the other vet. She wasn't eating and her mouth seemed to be bothering her. And the other vet hadn't checked as I requested, but instead x-rayed her body. The vet we saw (unfortunately didn't catch or remember the Drs name, the appointment went south quickly and I was lost in that) immediately said he had concerns and she wasn't well. It ended up being cancer and this morning I opted to euthanize her while she was already sedated as it seemed the best for her. I'm regretful I hadn't taken her here sooner so I had used my time more wisely with her, and likely ended her suffering sooner. I was given appetite stimulants at the other vet. So I was giving her appetite stimulants and she physically couldn't eat. It did take a couple weeks for my pup to be seen for routine annual visit, but both times I had an emergency, my pet was seen quickly/same day. So I appreciate my annual needing to be scheduled further out and believe it's worth the wait, if possible. I cannot recommend them enough and have been recommending them since I brought my pup last year. Deeply regret not taking my own advice with my senior cat. - read less

We recently began to bring our senior pets to NCAH. The doctors and staff treated our pets, and us, like we've been coming there for years. In the end, their health diminished rapidly and the entire staff treated each of them with love and kindness which ultimately made our final decisions easier. I usually do not post reviews online but for the reasons I mentioned above, I felt compelled to publicize the experience we received from NCAH. - read less

Love the care team here. They have treated my two adopted stray cats with kindness and competence. They saw my cats when no one else could fit them in for an appointment. I see someone complaining about the costs but hello, have you been to Blue Pearl? Enough said.

When I walked in, my new puppy had been spooked by the L train and was biting me and barking and crying, The team took her from me and cradled her in their arms like a baby and she immediately stopped crying. I was both amazed and relieved. Every single person in the office and especially Dr. Castillo was caring, kind, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. I didn't feel rushed or silly for asking a million questions. Dr. Castillo took the time to answer all my questions and gave me great recommendations for food, training and other resources. I will definitely be bringing Peanut back again as a regular patient. I can't say enough good things about NCAH. I would recommend them to any pet parent. Pets are family and if you want them to be treated as such then NCAH is the vet for you! Thank you Dr. Castillo and the entire NCAH family see you in two weeks! Love, Peanut and Tracy - read less

They know and remember my cat Skippy well and she is very comfortable during our visits. They are also very responsive, always answer the phone and find the time to help and schedule something soon during their busy schedule. In addition, they have an easily accessible online pharmacy where I can schedule automatic medicine delivery, so I don't have to travel to pick new batch when one runs out. We have seen a few different doctors at North Center and they are all very professional, don't keep you waiting for too long, clear about what treatment they are using and why, and empathetic towards Skippy. I moved to Gold Coast, but I decided to drive here when we need to visit a vet simply because I wanted her to have a say in which hospital she likes and this one is it! In some others around my new neighborhood she hid behind my legs as if she knew we were going to have a rather worse experience and she's her usual super friendly and curious self at North Center. Listen to your pet, more often than not they are right! - read less

I've never been to a better vet. The whole staff was kind and knowledgeable. Everything from scheduling to the actual appointment was easy to understand and you can tell they care. They gave me so much valueble information. I could go on all day and still not say enough to convey how great North Center is
